Luxe in Lhasa

Travelers in search of Buddhist enlightenment have a new, elegant hotel option when visiting Lhasa, the administrative capital of Tibet. Today, Hong Kong-based luxury hospitality brand Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts opened the doors of the Shangri-La Lhasa - a 289-room urban retreat in one of the world’s highest and most inspiring destinations

The Shangri-La Lhasa has been conceptualized to provide guests with an authentic window onto Tibetan culture and hospitality. From welcome and departure blessing rituals, to a signature CHI spa, to a restaurant serving traditional regional dishes, to interior design features throughout the property inspired by this ancient culture, the property is a remarkable setting from which to explore the city.

Lhasa features culturally significant Buddhist sites, including the Potala and Norbulingka Palaces, both of which are within walking distance from the hotel.  The striking city is located on a plateau soaring 11,975 feet above sea level,  surrounded by mountains, glaciers and desert-like landscape.

Although the Buddha would surely opt for more humble accommodations, there's no shame in enjoying a little luxurious pampering while on the path to eternal wisdom.
