Sustainability in a Room

Amsterdam is a city of greens. Green parks, green living and green… you know… Hotels.

In the charming Dutch capital, a unique boutique hotel ideal for travelers concerned about offsetting their carbon footprint can be found - the Conscious Hotel Vondelpark. Part of the Conscious Hotel chain, the name is actually not misleading. Quite the opposite. The brand's focus to help save the planet, one small hotel room at a time, is implemented in every detail possible.

From the leafy-green lobby with local pop up design shops, to non-air conditioned rooms, to explicitly written messages of sustainable hotel (and everyday life) living practices posted throughout, the property permeates sustainability. Indeed, even the witty copy makes for a quirky interaction with the building when - say - walking down the glass-enclosed walkway surrounding their rooftop urban garden, describing the flora and fauna found in this urban green space.

The standard size bedrooms are decorated in a simple yet modern Dutch design featuring reclaimed wood items and vibrant contemporary wallpapers featuring photographs of fauna, serving as a vivid reminder of what guests are helping to save during their stay.

The Conscious Hotel Vondelpark is located a bit farther afield from the major tourist attractions of Amsterdam in the city center. And that's a good thing. Nestled towards the end of an avenue lining the famed and chic Vondelpark  gardens, the hotel is located directly in front of a convenient tram that zips right into the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam in about 10 minutes. A brisk walk to the city center, however, allows visitors to explore some local eateries, shops and simply be immersed in daily Dutch life. Including conscious living.
