The addictive and rich chocolate hazelnut spread was invented in the 1940s by the founder of the Ferrero Company, Mr. Pietro Ferrero. As a pastry chef in Italy during WWII, Mr. Ferrero used hazelnuts to extend the use of chocolate during supply shortages.
